Film Study
The Soloist follows a newspaper journalist (Steve Lopez) who is dealing with challenges in his life in regards to his failed marriage, a disconnection with his son, and a general sense of disillusionment with life. Steve Lopez initially meets Nathanial Ayers in a park near his office where he realizes that Nathanial is homeless and dropped out of the Juilliard Conservatory of Music, which is the best music school in the United States. He quickly realizes that although Nathanial has a violin with only two strings, he is a genius in music. Steve begins to write about Nathanial for which is gains personal success, yet Steve does not want Nathanial to become attached to him or think of him as a friend.
This film is based on the true story of Steve Lopez and Nathanial Ayers and is written by Steve Lopez. |
