Short Story Project & Character Assignment
You will need to choose which story you would like to read and present on. You should consider: your reading level your ability in class your interest in the subject of each story the quality of your work in your project. (S / Pf / E) Satisfactory: "The Sniper" - Liam O'Flaherty Proficient / Excellent: "All Summer in a Day" - Ray Bradbury Answer the questions as your read the story (both have mini questions for you to fill in as you read. This gives you an example of reading strategies you should begin using in your mind when reading. Short Story Project: --> You will present to another group about your story --> You will create a powerpoint (5 slides) discussing: - plot summary (5 main events) (initial incident, rising action, climax, falling action, conclusion) - 2- 3 themes developed (explain the themes and provide evidence) - 5 good quotes from the story that could be used in an essay - 3 symbols --> tell me the symbol, explain it in detail (meaning) - suspense --> how did the story create suspense (give evidence) |
Character Assignment
1. Draw a major character from one of the short stories we read. Satisfactory - Write down events the character was involved in during the story. Use the plot to help you. Proficient - Draw symbols that could relate to the character. The symbols do not have to be from the story - you could add other symbols to show their personality. Excellent - Find evidence from the story that describes the character's personality or decisions. Use specific evidence that advances your understanding of the character. |
